ARTIST STATEMENT: I consider the binary between abstract and representational art no longer useful in describing my approach to mark making and composition. Symbolism exists in both conventions and is the focus of my work-- a symbol being an acceptable representation of a more abstract concept. In formal composition I seek to embody or otherwise map symbols as they relate to one another and as I personally conceive of them with the understanding that each person interprets symbolism differently.
