ARTIST STATEMENT: My work addresses social aspects of the patriarchal society in the Islamic culture where I was raised. I am interested in women's issues and the social aspects related to their role in society. I witnessed a great divide amongst men and women, upper class and middle class, and basic rights of being human. I grew up in the 80s in Pakistan where I felt extreme disassociation with the culture I grew up in. I could not relate to my environment and felt like a misfit.
