ARTIST STATEMENT: I create detailed 'plant portraits' that illustrate Western society's parallel/divergent obsession with and dislocation from nature. This tension is expressed in the plant's idealized form and the highly decorative vessel that contains it. Domestic plants occupy a unique space in our lives - and they are objects that respond predictably to human care and attention. Though the concept of a 'houseplant' feels somewhat contrary to nature, I see it as a metaphor for caregiving and connection.
