ABOUT THE ARTIST: Marla McLeod is an interdisciplinary artist working in oil, painting, photography, sculpture, and textiles. Born in CA, she now lives and works in CT and MA. Marla McLeod was born in California and now lives and works in Boston, MA. She received her Bachelor of Science in Studio Art from Southern Connecticut State University in 2014.She is best known for exploring identity and social constructs through her realistic portrait paintings. McLeod delivers carefully detailed paintings, in which her subjects are isolated in dark symbolic backgrounds. McLeod’s work has been presented at Southern Connecticut State University; the School of the Museum of Fine Art; Ely House, CT; City Lights Gallery, CT; Dana Hall School, MA, and ESPN, amongst others. She was the 2014 recipient of the Robert EW Eisele Fine Arts award, 2019 Will and Elena Barnet Painting Award, and received a 2019 Tisch Library Graduate Research Fellowship where she created her sculpture project entitled Represent. Mcleod presented her Represent project at Black Portraitures 2019 at NYU.
