Max Colby, BFA '12
Frolic on the Grass (#12)
20h x 16w x 0.5d
DESCRIPTION: Mixed Media, Unframed, Mixed media on watercolor paper
ARTIST STATEMENT: Through lush, detailed work, Max Colby reframes traditional notions of domesticity, power, and gender from a trans and non-binary perspective. Embellished with beads, sequins and other adornments, they rigorously explore identity through material histories. Their practice includes sculpture, installation, drawing, painting, collage, and embroidery. Touching on ceremonial iconography, the artist transforms and constructs objects which subvert the aesthetics of violent, patriarchal systems.
