Bread & Wine

DESCRIPTION: watercolor and gouache on paper, unframed
STATEMENT: My work considers the costs and limits of intimacy. I'm interested in the places where boundaries begin to blur and bleed. These ideas are explored through large scale watercolors staged in a drought-ridden California landscape. oil fields, dying thistles, cacti, and cockroaches serve as reminders of our cyclical interdependence and the price of survival. The use of water-media on a slick, non-porous surface helps express an ambiguity of physical and emotional boundaries. The plastic paper doesn't absorb the paint, leaving the pigment to sit at the surface impermanent and exposed. Our connections are fragile and our reserves finite.
