Green Machine
48 h x 48 w
DESCRIPTION: oil on canvas. painting changes color intensity based on ambient temperature and light exposure, framed.
My new abstracts feel born of nature, which evokes interpretation and as such, has introduced an element of poetry into my process. In this case, the "green" is not only the dominant color but also a reference to nature. And the word "machine" refers to the composition being built over time; a structure that through care and dedication, evolved into an extraordinary shrine of perseverance. Over the course of eight months, this paintings' journey took on many surprising forms. A sense of purpose and faith maintained my will to continue to tinker thoughtfully, culling what now exists to the surface; a collection of colors, textures, and shapes that, although very intentional, seem magical or otherworldly.
ARTIST STATEMENT: I have been making art and collaborating with other creative makers for over 25 years. For me, my work is as much about the act of painting itself as it is about the objects I embrace. While my technique has become more refined over the years, my approach has always been the same. I look for what is special in everyday objects, people, animals, etc., and build on that, exaggerating and accentuating features that appeal to me, with an almost baroque sensibility, to create truly stunning pieces that have integrity and that my clients enjoy living with every day.
