Cracked Oreo No.103
22h x 30w x 0d
DESCRIPTION: Drawings & Watercolors, Unframed, Conte Crayon on Paper
ARTIST STATEMENT: My father always carried half-eaten American sweets in his shirt pocket to share them with me. He experienced the Korean War, and the post-war hunger when he was young; chasing American GI's who shared "the world's best sweets" with him. Drawing American sweets was my own interpretation of Confucian ritual called "Jesa"; offering their food to a spirit of the ancestor and referring to the acknowledgment of the transition of cultural values in Korea under the proliferation of U.S pop culture.
